KEEPING UP WITH THE TIMES:
“Annmarie
Campbell’s Zen Garden at Bernheim Forest”
As the weather warms, consider a visit to the late
Annmarie Campbell’s zen garden at Bernheim Forest. Dawn Yankeelov,
Annmarie’s mother, and president of ASPectx worked with family members and
friends to design a space that invites peace and tranquility as well as moments
for creativity and adventure. This space is open to the public and available by
taking the grassy Lake Nevin Train Extension near Lake Nevin at Bernheim
Forest. When you first enter Bernheim, as you stop at the guard shack, look to
your right and you can see the zen garden in the distance in a grove of maple
trees. To see a location map, go to www.bernheim.org
under Memorials. There are two benches, handmade birdhouses, and the stones
indicating the circle of life from birth to death selected and placed by
Annmarie Campbell’s father and Dawn’s ex-husband, Bill Campbell. Deceased
artist Annmarie Campbell enjoyed many visits to Bernheim Arboretum and Research
Forest in Bulllitt County, Ky., and other moments of nature with her mother and
sister, Melissa, studying nature from the flowers to the insects. Within
Bernheim's 14,000 acres you will find a nationally-recognized arboretum,
beautiful gardens, tranquil lakes, a nature center, large expanses of scenic
natural area, 30 miles of hiking trails and a 12,000-acre research forest.
Enjoy a leisurely stroll, hike, bike, bring the family to the Visitors Center
or just come out to enjoy the ever changing display of natural splendor.
Donations can be made for the maintenance and upkeep of the Lake Nevin Trail
Extension where Annmarie’s Zen Garden resides in Annmarie Campbell’s memory
to:
Bernheim, P.O. Box 130, Clermont, KY 40110-0130 .
